Her book an international number one bestseller, with 15 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List and published in 20 languages throughout the world, Nobody Nowhere is a moving, gripping, surreal, myth-shattering, sometimes hilarious but ultimately uplifting book and one that will stay with you as one of the most moving and exceptional works you will ever read.  Life, 'normality' and 'reality' will not be the same after you read this book.

Wrong Planet is a fantastic site that is full of information, links, articles, news, etc.  It has a range of forums for parents, caregivers, educators, teenagers, children etc for people who are connected to the Autism Spectrum or Aspergers.  Despite the American content, this site contains valuable information and discussions.

·      Temple Grandin

http://www.templegrandin.com/templehome.html

Dr. Temple Grandin is an extraordinary lady.  She is brilliant, accomplished and a lecturer and scientist.  She has written a number of books on autism based on her experiences as a person growing up with autism; as well as her observations on how to assist children with autism today.  She is a compelling lady, as she has many years of experience having had to grow up with autism in the early 60s.  A film has been made about her life called “Temple Grandin” starring Claire Daines.  It is going to be released in February this year in the USA but I am unsure if or when it will be released in Australia.  I’ll let you know when I find out.
In this innovative book, Dr. Temple Grandin gets down to the REAL issues of autism, the ones parents, teachers, and individuals on the spectrum face every day. Temple offers helpful do’s and don’ts, practical strategies, and try-it-now tips, all based on her “insider” perspective and a great deal of research.

These are just some of the specific topics Temple delves into:

· How and Why People with Autism Think Differently

· Economical Early Intervention Programs that Work

· How Sensory Sensitivities Affect Learning

· Behaviors Caused by a Disability vs. Just Bad Behaviors

· Teaching People with Autism to Live in an Unpredictable World

· Alternative Medicine vs. Conventional Medicine

· Employment Ideas for Adults with Autism

http://www.disabilityisnatural.com/

This is a really informative, powerful and pro-active website.  Kathie Snow, the author of the website is a Mum to an amazing boy, Benjamin who was born with cerebral palsy.  This took her on a real journey through the life of “disability” and a realisation that how we view disability needed to dramatically changed.  Her writings, newsletter and website are full of amazing information that inspires and motivates with empowering positivity.

I’ve put a link on the “Brilliance that is Autism” page to her “People First” article.  It not applies to Autism, but to all disabilities and we really do need to change the way we label and talk about children who have disabilities.  They are children first; their disability is simply a small aspect of who they are as people.

"Open Doors Center believes that learning comes from within.  When the right environment is provided children will flourish.  Open Doors provides an environment where children are encouraged to explore and discover, an environment which allows JOY and WONDER to return to learning and education."
