ABOUT ME
I am a qualified teacher, a life coach and a mother. I have been teaching in mainstream schools for over 15 years and I’ve been teaching in special schools for the last 5 years. When I began teaching children in special schools, I felt like I had “come home” but ultimately I found myself drawn to children with Autism. I’ve had the good fortune to be able to teach these children and the more I immersed myself in their world, the more fascinated I became.
I am passionate about teaching, but more importantly I am passionate about making a difference to the world of Autism. It is when I have taken myself to their space, that my life has been transformed. I don’t profess to have all the answers, but I know for sure that these children vibrate differently and the key to connecting with them is tuning into their frequency and finding the right cadence to vibrate to.
My insight largely comes from observation, interaction and becoming familiar with these beautiful and magnificent children. I am also a visionary because what I propose is certainly left of mainstream – however I have NO doubt that I am on the right track and what I contend will revolutionise the way we view autism (as well as all disability).
This year I completed my Masters in Education where the focus of my studies was on autism, autism education, technology and autism and giftedness and autism. This study has been extremely beneficial and illuminating and I have to say I learned so much more than I expected. Research, while a labour in itself took me on many detours and paths and I was gratified to find I was not a lone voice on this subject. Sure, there are many people out there who call themselves authorities, but a majority of research is focused upon a cure. I don't necessarily wish to find a cure, instead I wish to find the connection; the bridge; the clues to the mystery that is autism. For as much as this condition can be debilitating; there is also much about this condition that is fascinating, interesting and in a way transformational to us as human beings. The one thing I am sure of, is that autism is in fact a teacher in itself; the very essence of its lessons is to help us to evolve as human beings.
My belief is that my future work will hopefully lend a voice to the future that is autism and at the same time help families and those who have this condition to break free.
